Supported living in Toledo: more independence, the right support

Supported living helps adults with developmental disabilities in Toledo and Northwest Ohio live as independently as possible, with the right amount of assistance in the right places. The goal is always to build skills and confidence, not to do things for someone that they can learn to do themselves.

What supported living covers

Support is built around the person's goals and delivered according to their authorized service plan:

  • Independent living skills
  • Household management
  • Meal planning & shopping
  • Budgeting
  • Transportation & appointments
  • Community participation
  • Social activities
  • Relationship building
  • Health & safety

Who supported living is for

  • Adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities who want to live in their own home or apartment
  • People moving out of a family home for the first time, and the families supporting that step
  • Individuals who need some help with daily living but want to make their own choices

Common Questions

Supported Living: quick answers

What's the difference between supported living and shared living?

In supported living, staff help a person live as independently as possible in their own home. Shared living is an arrangement where the person shares a home with a caregiver, built around compatibility and the person's preferences. We provide both and can help you think through which fits.

How is supported living funded?

Supported living is usually funded through Ohio DODD waivers when it is in the person's service plan. Your SSA or county Board of DD can confirm eligibility and what is authorized.

Can remote support be part of supported living?

Often, yes. Our remote support services add monitoring and scheduled wellness calls that can reduce the need for in-person staff at certain times, coordinated with the whole support team.

How do we get started?

Contact us and we will talk through goals and needs, coordinate with your SSA or county board, and match staff before services begin. We respond within one business day.
